with Memorial Cross correctly impressed 2003 Gnr H.C. Alexander. Herbert Charles Alexander was killed on 14 December 1940 aged 23 while serving with 4th Field Regt 26, Field Battery in Egypt. Consistent with historical information it would appear that during the day NZ artillery units were under heavy siege from air and armor and on more than one occasion the NZ servicemen were serving within and even behind the German/Italian lines. Further research on this group will inevitably reveal an intriguing story.
