WWI Gilt Fob 3AGH/58th Bn MM Polygon Wood WIA Twice


7687 Pte Ernest Reid enlisted in the AIF 17 April 1915, aged 18 years and embarked for overseas with the 3rd AGH on 27 September 1915. Transferred to 58th Bn 23 December 1916.  WIA in France twice 4 February 1917 and 25 September 1917. Awarded the Military Medal for his splendid conduct as a stretcher bearer during the Battalions tour at Polygon Wood during the period 23-27 September 1917.  “Enemy sniping and heavy enemy barrage fire he scorned, and owing to the splendid services of this man and Private Carter, many lives were saved.  His stretchers were blown up and he then assisted a neighbouring unit to carry their wounded” Source: Commonwealth Gazette No. 31 date 7 March 1918.
